Artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t the future - it’s here now, transforming businesses across South Yorkshire. From automating routine tasks to unlocking new growth opportunities, AI is reshaping the way we work. But how prepared are local businesses to embrace this change? That’s exactly what the Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) wants to find out this quarter.

Why Your Voice Matters
The QES is the UK’s largest and longest-running business survey, capturing insights from thousands of businesses every quarter. In South Yorkshire, it’s delivered jointly by the Sheffield, Doncaster, and Barnsley & Rotherham Chambers of Commerce. The survey provides a snapshot of trading conditions, workforce pressures, investment intentions, and business confidence — and the results are shared directly with national policymakers, including HM Treasury and the Bank of England.

This quarter, the survey includes a special focus on AI business readiness, exploring how organisations are integrating AI, who leads on AI strategy, the challenges businesses face, and what support would be most helpful — from skills development to funding and technology access.

The Impact of Your Insights
The QES doesn’t just collect data — it drives action. Results help shape regional economic strategies, influence policy decisions, and ensure that South Yorkshire businesses have a voice at both the local and national level. This is a unique opportunity to highlight the realities of running a business in the AI era, and to help direct the support and resources needed to thrive.

What Local Chamber Leaders Say
Dan Fell, Chief Executive of Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, said:

"The QES gives us a vital opportunity to understand how prepared our businesses are for AI adoption and to identify the support needed to help them thrive as this exciting sector grows."

Louisa Harrison-Walker OBE, Chief Executive of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, added:

"The AI focus this quarter is particularly timely. We urge every business to take a few minutes to complete the survey — it’s a small action that delivers real impact."

Carrie Sudbury, Chief Executive of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, said:

"With AI presenting both exciting opportunities and serious challenges, it’s never been more important for businesses to share their voice."

Take Part in the QES
The survey is open from 18 August to 15 September 2025 and is open to all South Yorkshire businesses, regardless of size, sector, or Chamber membership. It only takes a few minutes to complete, but your input will help shape the future of business support, investment, and strategy in the region.
