Doncaster Chamber Welcomes Vote on Airport City Borrowing

Doncaster Chamber has welcomed City of Doncaster Council’s full cabinet decision to approve additional borrowing for the South Yorkshire Airport City programme, paving the way for the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The programme aims not only to reopen the airport but also to create a cluster of high-value economic activity across logistics, advanced manufacturing, retail, leisure, and residential opportunities, all supported by better transport links.
Dan Fell, Chief Executive of Doncaster Chamber, said:
“This afternoon’s cross-party backing is an important milestone and reflects the huge public and business support for getting DSA reopened. We recognise that some members raised risks and concerns during the debate - concerns that are also shared within the business community.
“The Chamber looks forward to working closely with City of Doncaster Council, Fly Doncaster, and other partners to help address those risks, maintain transparency, and ensure this project is delivered robustly. South Yorkshire’s businesses know the enormous potential of DSA, and we remain committed to playing our part in making the airport a resounding success for the region.”
The reopening of DSA represents a major opportunity for economic growth across South Yorkshire, supporting jobs, investment, and regional connectivity. Doncaster Chamber pledges to continue to advocate for a collaborative approach to maximise the benefits for local businesses, residents, and the wider economy.
