Chamber CEO Calls on New Prime Minister to Back DSA and Demonstrate Commitment to Northern Growth

Today, Doncaster Chamber, City of Doncaster Council, FlyDoncaster and Business Doncaster hosted the second and third sessions of Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s Meet the Buyer event. The event brought together more than 100 local businesses throughout the day, to explore supply chain opportunities linked to the airport's reopening. 

Speaking at the sessions, Dan Fell MBE, Chief Executive of Doncaster Chamber, called on the new Prime Minister to support DSA as a transformational economic project for South Yorkshire and the wider North. While regional partners have done the heavy lifting to reach this stage, Fell said national backing is needed for DSA to realise its full potential as a nationally significant airport. He highlighted the importance of a rail link to the airport, which would support route development, improve connectivity for businesses and residents, and help relieve pressure on the East Coast Main Line. 

Fell said, "Every time the business community has stepped in, it has been to remind decision-makers of the strength of support behind this project. The economic prize is significant and becoming clearer every day. DSA is exactly the kind of ambitious regeneration project that deserves Government backing, and we hope Ministers will support future infrastructure investment, including a railway station serving the airport." 

Fell added that if the Prime Minister is serious about driving growth, DSA is exactly the kind of ambitious regeneration project that could define his time in Downing Street. Doncaster Chamber is now urging the new Government to show the same commitment to South Yorkshire as it has to other major northern growth projects, helping drive investment, connectivity and long-term economic growth.
