Giving up my bed for one night to help those who don’t have one

On 7 October I’m joining business leaders from across Doncaster and giving up my bed for one night to help those who don’t have one. I’m delighted to be involved in such an important project.

Homelessness continues to be an issue across the UK and as the fifth richest country in the world, we should be doing all we can to eradicate it. As is often the case with complex issues, homeless people are not always visible. Many are sofa surfing, in precarious circumstances or spend many years in substandard bed and breakfast accommodation. Let’s not forget that many children are homeless and this needs to be urgently addressed.

The circumstances that lead to homelessness are often complex and varied. Indeed, it is said that many people are only three paycheques from homelessness themselves. It is often the most vulnerable in society that are most at risk, young care leavers, those suffering with addiction and women and girls who have been subject to violence and abuse.

The CEO Sleepout is in no way comparable to the horrors that homeless people face but as we struggle to get to sleep whilst being cold, hungry and uncomfortable, it will help us reflect on what that would be like if that was the reality of our daily lives.

So now comes the inevitable request for your support. I’ve created a Just Giving page. Any donations to support this important cause are greatly appreciated, please give generously.
