Ros Jones CBE
Mayor of Doncaster
Ros Jones has been Mayor of Doncaster since 2013, having been re-elected to the position in May 2017.
A lifelong Doncaster resident and qualified Chartered Public Finance Accountant, Ros worked in both the public and private sector during her career before being elected as a borough Councillor in 2006, and becoming Chair of Council and Chair of Audit. Ros is currently a member of both the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority and LEP Board, and is Chair of the Sheffield City Region Infrastructure Board.
Since becoming elected Mayor, Ros has led Doncaster Council out of Government intervention early, and introduced wide ranging improvements, including successful policies to support the local economy, job creation, public and private sector housing developments, and education improvements.
In December 2017, under Ros’s leadership, Doncaster Council held a Community Poll of its entire electorate, to consult local residents on their preferred geography for regional devolution. The result was overwhelmingly in support of Doncaster becoming part of the widest possible Yorkshire devolution deal.
In 2017 Ros was awarded a CBE for services to Local Government.
In 2019, Ros received a World Mayor 2018 Commendation in recognition of her services to Local Government, and her commitment to strengthen social justice and prosperity for the people of Doncaster.
