Sheffield Hallam University students are enjoying a summer of sporting success as they bring home medals and achieve personal bests.

Kickboxer Trinity Leeson-Rice brought home the bronze for both the team and individual competitions at the European University Games in Zagreb, Croatia recently.

Trinity visited Zagreb for the games alongside fellow student Zakir Zaraki who competed in the Taekwondo category. Overall there were 1,300 participants from over 400 universities from 35 different countries.

Last month, Joe Litchfield brought home the silver medal in the swimming at the World University Games in Naples, Italy. Three other students competed in the games, with Connor Carpenter and Peter Pickford competing in the waterpolo events and Izzy Carpenter represented Team Hallam in the archery.

Speaking about her experience at the games, Trinity Leeson-Rice, said: "As kickboxing has only just been given Olympic recognition, to represent Team Hallam and have their support at the first European combat championships was an honour. The standard of competition was off the scale, and to earn two bronze medals felt incredible.

"I'm now even more motivated to come back stronger next year and take the gold for Hallam. Next year the event is going to be even bigger with over 20 sports competing in Belgrade, Serbia. I'd love to represent Team GB and Team Hallam again!"

Meanwhile, the Sheffield Hallam Formula Student team spent the weekend at the Silverstone Circuit recently - home to the British Grand Prix, to take part in the annual Formula Student competition.

The team achieved 21st overall in the competition, beating their previous personal best.

To take part in the competition, engineering students across the country must design, produce and race their own car as part of a team.

Formula student is Europe's most established educational engineering competition which uses motorsport to engage and inspire students. Backed by industry, the competition aims to encourage more young people into the engineering industry and encourage enterprise and innovation.

Following their success at the Formula Student event, the team recently met the Duke of Sussex on a visit to Sheffield Hallam. The Duke was introduced to a range of research and development projects led by the University, as part of his visit, he met with the team, who showed him the car they built and raced and spoke about their experience at Silverstone.
