    CPI inflation in the UK stood at 1.9% in February 2019, up from 1.8% in the previous month. In the three months to December 2018, the number of people in employment rose by 222,000 on the previous three-month period. Average weekly earnings (excluding bonuses) rose by 3.4%, up from 3.2% on the previous three-month period. UK retail sales increased by 0.4% in February 2019 and were up by 0.7% on the three-month-on-three month measure.

    Public sector net borrowing (excluding public sector banks) in February 2019 was £0.2 billion, £1 billion less than in February 2018 and the lowest February outturn for since 2017. The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee voted unanimously in favour of keeping interest rates on hold at 0.75%.
