Doncaster Chamber brings Heathrow Business Summit to YorkshireOctober 24, 2018Over 100 business leaders met with Heathrow and their supply chains at Yorkshire’s only Heathrow Business Summit. Doncaster Chamber worked in partnership with Heathrow Airport to facilitate the connections with the Airport’s procurement team and principal suppliers and open up an array of national business opportunities.
Heathrow is keen to ensure the benefits of its expansion are felt across the UK via supply chain opportunities, logistics hubs, and regional airports that provide onward connectivity to global markets – opening up commercial opportunities for Chamber members and other regional firms.
The Chamber facilitated 250 appointments throughout the day for delegates to meet with an array of suppliers including Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure, Mace and Balfour Beaty to discuss business – from construction and catering to transport and technology.
Dan Fell, CEO for Doncaster Chamber, welcomed the delegates saying:
“The summit exemplifies the Chamber’s values of credibility and meaningful collaboration for the good of our regional economy and business communities.
“By bringing together the UK’s hub airport and its top tier suppliers along with Doncaster and Yorkshire SMEs, it provides an opportunity to evidence the tangible link between major national infrastructure projects and supply chain opportunities for the UK’s SMEs.
“It’s important that Doncaster is outward looking and interacting positively not just with UK plc. but with global markets and opportunities too.
“That is why the Chamber has, for a long time been a vocal champion of supporting and growing the UK’s airports including Heathrow and of course, Doncaster Sheffield Airport.”
Ross Baker, chief commercial officer of Heathrow, and Rt Hon Caroline Flint MP for Don Valley, also spoke about the benefits of supporting infrastructure projects to open up new opportunities. They believed that firms of all sizes and sectors from across Doncaster and Yorkshire should have a role in delivering one of the UK’s most transformative projects and add demonstrable value to Heathrow and its partners.
David Chamberlain, Ellgia, says:
"The Heathrow Summit hosted by the Doncaster Chamber was above and beyond our expectations. It was great for SME’s like ourselves to have the window of opportunity to showcase our capabilities in front of some of the UK’s biggest companies and Heathrow’s ongoing supply chain. We made plenty of new contacts and received great feedback on our business and for the potential use of our services so we look forward to seeing where it leads us."
Rebecca Dyson, Apprenticeship Accounts Manager, Premier Partnership says:
“It was a worthwhile event for us to attend. I met with High Speed Rail and Amalga to discuss providing functional skills to their apprentices and staff respectively. Crucially, it enabled us to raise our profile within the local business arena and identify ways in which we can work together. It was valuable to make these connections and start these conversations to build long term working relationships.”
Doncaster Chamber works for its members to create new networks and supply chain opportunities for business growth. The not-for-profit organisation runs regular ‘Meet the buyer’ events and ‘Doing business in…’ workshops to encourage local, national and international trade.
