The Handcrafted IV EW DANVM collection were unveiled on Wednesday 23 January by Mayor Ros Jones and Councillor Bill Mordue and feature titled frames such as “Leger”, “Mayflower” and “Belle” which will be exclusively stocked by the practice, unavailable anywhere else in the world.

In fact, the “Mayflower” range proved so popular with the Mayor that she bought the very first pair.
The collection was named in celebration of Doncaster’s Roman heritage and to honour the present landmarks that make Doncaster great.

Pretty & Pete, the practice owners, were approached in 2018 to design and subsequently stock their own brand of glasses. After an initial brainstorm, the owners decided on producing a range which was exclusive and truly unique to the local area, and which encapsulated how much there is to be proud of Doncaster.

Each piece has been handcrafted in a small factory in the hills of Athens, the original wood shavings used to perfect the acetate materials are sent with each frame. Each style is unique and chosen by both Head Optometrist, Pretty, and Practice Manager, Kirsty.

Pretty said: “As part of the growing support and positivity around local, independent businesses in Doncaster, we really saw this collection as an opportunity to stand out from the crowd and celebrate Doncaster’s historical culture whilst also proudly keeping with our own traditions of bringing a sense of exclusivity to the local area.”

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “Creating a unique line of glasses named after our proud history and heritage is a wonderful idea. It is always pleasing to see our local businesses expanding and introducing exciting new product lines. We wish Edwards & Walker Opticians every success.

“We are delivering significant investment in our town centre with various new developments going up and we continue to encourage people to buy local and support their local businesses.”

The collection will be available to view from the 23 January and prices will start from £160. The full collection can be seen at the practice in Doncaster town centre on Priory Place. In addition, individual frames will be shared on the practice’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages throughout the coming months.
