A Sheffield Hallam University student will spend the day with the CEO of a FTSE 100 company after winning a competition.

Final year Business and Enterprise student Lisa Allen secured the opportunity through the CEO x 1 Day programme, led by executive recruitment company Odgers Berndston.

Twenty-one UK undergraduate students have been invited to take part and will spend the day with the chief executive of a leading public-sector organisation, not-for-profit or business.

Those involved include Sainsbury's, Visa, ITV, Barnardo's The Department for Transport and the Royal Mint.

Lisa will be shadowing the chief executive of Rentokil Initial plc Andy Ransom. Rentokil operates in 75 countries and had revenues of £2.5bn in 2018.

Speaking about the opportunity, Lisa said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be one of the chosen winners for the Odgers Berndston CEO x 1 Day programme. To be selected as a winner out of all the students who applied is such as honour and I'm really looking forward to shadowing Andy."

Lisa decided to apply for the programme after it was recommended by her career mentor.

The Career Mentoring Scheme pairs a Sheffield Hallam student (mentee) with a professional (mentor) to provide insight and experience within that occupation or job role.

Andy Ransom, chief executive of Rentokil Initial plc, said: "I'm delighted to be taking part in the CEO x 1 Day programme, it will be a pleasure to welcome Lisa - I'm sure we can provide an interesting and inspiring day for her."

Kester Scrope, chief executive of Odgers Berndston, said: "The need to innovate and manage generational changes in the workforce are big issues for all senior leaders. This gives CEO's a chance to engage in a very personal way that is of immense value to a young person starting out."

To date almost 1,000 CEO's and students from 13 countries have taken part in the CEO x 1 Day programme, following almost 20,000 applications.
