'Hallam Alliance' set to transform the Sheffield skylineDecember 18, 2018Sheffield Hallam has announced plans to create a revolutionary collaboration to deliver its £220m campus masterplan in the heart of the city centre.
The campus masterplan was announced in February 2018. It will play a key role in Sheffield Hallam fulfilling its ambition to become the world's leading applied university.
The University has gone out to tender with the aim of creating a 'Hallam Alliance' to work on the project. It will bring together construction, design consultancy and facilities management services as partners, who will be involved throughout the entire project and influence each phase.
The alliance approach will encourage a shared ethos of partnership, collaboration and innovation to bring about more effective and efficient developments. It will create apprenticeships and work placements, whilst providing opportunities for students and utilising research and best practice to design world class facilities.
It will also prioritise the use of a local supply chain, providing a boost for businesses within the Sheffield City Region and driving local economic growth.
Plans are set to benefit students, industry partners and the general population as a whole. It will see the creation of a state-of-the art, sustainable campus featuring several new buildings and green spaces between Sheffield Station and Arundel Gate.
The first phase will see approximately £220million invested over the next five years. It includes new buildings with teaching facilities and staff workplaces for the Sheffield Business School (SBS) and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Daniel Ladbury, Director of Estates, said "This is a bold new partnership approach which moves away from the single project mentality traditionally seen in the industry. It will significantly improve how we operate.”
"As well as delivering outstanding new buildings and spaces to learn and work in, the Hallam Alliance will work together to create new opportunities for students, local people and business.”
"We take our civic role at the heart of the region extremely seriously. Therefore ensuring we deliver maximum benefit from this flagship development is a priority. When complete it will be a major asset for Sheffield and the wider region, helping to attract new talent and investment to our area."
