Amazon gives VIP visit to local SEND studentsMarch 05, 2019Amazon welcomed 15 SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) students from the Communication Specialist College Doncaster (CSCD) for an industry visit organised by Doncaster Skills Academy to give them a first-hand experience of the various employment opportunities available to them on their doorstep.
Amazon opened their doors to the first SEND school to visit the premises located at the iPort. The aim was to engage young people first-hand with the different roles and opportunities within the the world renowned market leading company.
“The students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the Amazon Fulfilment Centre. The opportunity for our students to see and ask questions within different organisations and businesses provides an invaluable chance for them to learn more about real working environments. This experience gave our students the chance to see a range of job roles in action. Thanks go to Adam Asquith at Amazon and his team for welcoming us," said Suzie Beaumont of the Communication Specialist College Doncaster.
Adam Asquith led the tour alongside two Amazon ambassadors, Doncaster Skills Academy’s Rachael McEwan and four of the College staff who provided British Sign Language expertise for the visit.
Adam commented: “This visit was arranged between myself and Rachael and was the first SEND school to visit our site; and what a great tour it was.
“As a tour lead, working alongside a sign language expert, was a new experience and something I can’t wait to do again. The group itself was awesome and asked some really good questions; some I had never been asked before. The one thing that I loved about the group is how amazed they were when they saw the size of the building inside and the amazing technology we use.”
The Communication Specialist College Doncaster will go on more Industry Visits organised by Doncaster Skills Academy to show the students the career opportunities available across the borough and to raise their aspirations.
