The Sleep Charity, a small national charity based in Doncaster has brought home their second national award of the year. They brought home the prestigious Third Sector Award for ‘Small Charity, Big Achiever’ this week. The organisation is dedicated to helping children and young people to improve sleep issues to support their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. The Third Sector Awards recognise the achievements of charities, social enterprises and the companies that support them. This year’s judging panel was chaired by Sarah Lindsell Chief Executive of the Brain Tumour Charity.

The Children’s Sleep Charity estimates that 40% of infants and children have problems with sleep, which can lead to anxiety, behavioural problems, a lowered immune system, obesity and poorer performance in school. There is often little support available which can lead many families into crisis. This innovative, small charity provides support for families and accredited training for professionals and organisations across England and Wales. The charity work with limited resources to reach over 30,000 families each year.

Vicki Dawson, Founder and CEO of the charity said:

“To win another national award is incredible, it really shows how hard our small team work in order to support families who are suffering the impact of chronic sleep deprivation.  I hope that it will help us to promote the importance of sleep to a wider audience so that we can support more families over the coming years.”

Anna has received support from the charity and said:

“I’m so pleased to hear their work has been recognised. Until you have suffered sleep deprivation or years and been unable to find any support you can’t possibly understand the value of what this wonderful charity do. My family was in ruins before they helped, it affected every single area of our
lives including work, health and relationships.”

The Sleep Charity received their award at a ceremony held at the Marriot Hotel in Mayfair on Thursday evening. In May they were awarded the GSK Impact Award with King’s Fund for the impact of their work, the prize included £30,000.
