    Supply Chain Opportunities:
    • The supply chain opportunities with HS2 are huge: For every direct contract we award, there could be up to 1,000 supply chain opportunities, across many business sectors, requiring a wide range of capabilities, over a number of years suitable for businesses of all types and sizes.
    • We have let around £10bn worth of contracts. By this time next year this will be around £20bn.
    • The HS2 project is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you to get involved and help deliver Britain’s new high speed railway. There will be thousands of opportunities on offer to you, and now is the time to get involved. Archaeology:
Before we build bridges, tunnels, tracks and stations, the largest archaeology programme ever undertaken in the UK will take place along the line of route.  Over the next 2 years, more than 1,000 archaeologists, specialists, scientists and conservators will be exploring and recording over 60 archaeological sites for the project. As part of HS2’s enabling works, they will reveal over 10,000 years of British history.

    Green corridor:
    • We’re creating a ‘green corridor’ alongside HS2, which will support local wildlife and communities, while integrating the railway into the landscape.  Along the Phase One route, which covers 216km from London to the West Midlands, the green corridor will encompass:
    • 7 million new trees and shrubs, including over 40 native species, specific to each location. The new native woodlands will cover over 9 square kilometres of land.
    • Over 33 square kilometres of new and existing wildlife habitat – equating to an area the size of 4,600 football pitches. That’s an increase of around 30% compared to what’s there now.
    • Tailor-made homes for wildlife, ranging from bat houses to 226 new ponds for great crested newts and other amphibians.
    • Earthworks and landscaping which will re-use around 90% of the material excavated during construction.
    • The potential to support community projects and develop amenity spaces such as access routes, public parks, open spaces and nature reserves.
