In September 2018, Doncaster UTC gained approval from the Department for Education to open in Doncaster’s town centre in September 2020. Doncaster UTC will be a distinctive school led by employers to provide an innovative and engaging learning environment and unique learning experience. The UTC will deliver a core curriculum based around STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects, with an opportunity for learners to specialise across four defined pathways; rail, digital design, construction & infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.
We want you to be part of this exciting new school from the beginning so you can be a part of shaping its development. Your future employees will attend the UTC; by working with us now you will become an integral part of ensuring industry is within the DNA of Doncaster University Technical College’s curriculum.
16:30 – 17:00 – ARRIVAL AND INFORMAL NETWORKING
Our partners in attendance will be on-hand to welcome guests and discuss their experiences to date with Doncaster UTC. A cold buffet and tea and coffee will be served to all our guests on arrival.
17:00 – 18:30 – PRESENTATIONS AND INFORMATION
Guests will be presented with information from different aspects of the UTC.
Dan Fell, Chief Executive Officer of Doncaster Chamber of Commerce will welcome attendees and introduce Doncaster UTC, the aims of the event, and our plans and next steps.
Helen Redford-Hernandez, Headteacher from Hungerhill School will talk about the group of schools coming together to form a new Trust, Brighter Futures Learning Partnership Trust, how the UTC sits within that group.
The Rt Hon. Lord Baker, Chairman and Trustee of Baker-Dearing Educational Trust will talk about the benefits to industry including building a talent pipeline, shaping education to meet your business needs, and being exposed to future employees who are work-ready and adaptable to industry practices.
Employers from our core partners will talk about their experiences so far, why they chose to partner with Doncaster UTC, and the benefits they see for the future.
18:30 – 19:00 – INFORMAL QUESTIONS AND NETWORKING
Our partners will continue to be available to chat further to you and answer questions.
HOW WILL YOU BENEFIT FROM DONCASTER UTC?
Nationally, in 2018:
- 47% of UTC leavers went to university (28% nationally)
- 81% of UTC leavers starting university chose STEM courses (46% nationally)
- 54% of apprenticeships undertaken by UTC students are Higher or Degree level (20% nationally)
- 27% of UTC leavers started an apprenticeship (6% nationally)
