Our speakers will cover all aspects of exporting within South East Asia. The speakers wide and varied experience of doing business within this region will prepare companies with the knowledge you need to start exporting including; where to start, understanding local laws, political & cultural differences to enable your business to build strong trading relationships across South East Asia.
Speaker Bio:
Paul North - UK - Asean Business Council
Paul is an experienced Executive Business Manager with a wealth of experience in international markets from having worked and lived in the Middle East for more than 30 years. His previous role was with the Department for International Trade (formerly UK Trade & Investment), heading up the Overseas Business Network Initiative in the East Midlands. He was developing and supporting a global network of business-led partner organisations to offer a wide range of high-quality support in key markets, particularly Southeast Asia, for exporting companies.
Duncan Hoyland - Department for International Trade
Former British diplomat now coordinating export activity across the Sheffield City Region with the Department for International Trade. Previously Head of Inward Investment with UK Trade & Investment, Johannesburg South Africa. Worked in Kuwait, Norway and Mexico. Prior to South Africa I was with The Department for Business developing the UK Industrial Strategy on construction and EU tenders. As Head of Trade at The British Embassy Kuwait, I helped increase bilateral trade by 20%. I led on commercial aspects to develop UK commercial opportunities through visits by HRH The Prince of Wales, The Prime Minister David Cameron and Gordon Brown, Ministers for Trade. I led visits by HRH the Duke of York and the Lord Mayors of the City of London.
Simon Bedford - Department for International Trade
Simon Bedford has worked on contract for the Department for International Trade and prior to that UKTI for over 12 years. In this time Simon has worked with more than 1000 companies discussing the company’s strategy, assessing the appropriate “route to market” options and supporting their developments.
During this period Simon has co-written a range of guides for DIT and his book “Exporting Made Easy” is a practical guide to selling overseas. Simon has in-depth knowledge of a wide range of markets from Europe and the USA. He has travelled regularly throughout South East Asia and knows this region well. Simon worked for many years in the international division of a Belgian multinational. He is an Associate Lecturer in International Business and Marketing at Sheffield Hallam University.
