Young people put Trust in Hurstons Accountants for advice

Local accountancy and business consultancy practice, Hurstons, has been working with the Prince’s Trust since 2006, helping young people enter into the workplace.

The Prince’s Trust is a voluntary youth charity, set up by HRH Prince Charles of Wales to give practical and financial support to young people wanting to start up their own businesses.

“We wanted to give something back to the business community and had heard about the Prince’s Trust, but didn’t quite know what it involved,” explains Anthony Fairhurst, Partner of Hurstons. “I met up with a member of the Prince’s Trust and then went on a course so I could be a mentor for them.”

The Prince’s Trust helps young people aged between 14 and 30 years old, and partners them with various mentors in all aspects of business, whether it be accountancy and business development, sales and marketing or production efficiency for example. Mentors are assigned to young people in their region, and meet up with them on a regular basis to offer guidance and support.

“We have helped a number of young small businesses start up, including a dance school in Thorne which specialises teaching the bride and groom their first dance, and also an electrician from Westwoodside, Martin Knowles,” continues Anthony. “They both came to me with no business experience, but with good ideas, and together we turned them into efficient and profit-making businesses for them.”

As business advisors and accountants, Hurstons are well-placed to advise young people how to turn their business ideas into reality. Anthony himself set up Hurstons in 2000 with now retired partner, Ted Upton, so he knows all about the challenges that face new businesses. Hurstons now has two branches, one on the High Street in Epworth, and the other at Branston near Lincoln.
