You can have your say on Doncaster’s major road scheme....

Doncaster Council is inviting residents to learn more and have their say on the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS), which will see a new link road from Junction 3 of the M18 serve the south-east of Doncaster.

A series of public exhibitions are taking place where people can view the plans, ask members of the project team questions and leave invaluable feedback.

The events are taking place at:

Holmescarr Community Enterprise Centre, Rossington  – Friday 3 February (10am to 1pm)
Cantley Library – Friday 3 February (2pm to 6pm)
Asda (Bawtry Road) – Saturday 4 February (10am to 8pm)

Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, said: “FARRRS is more than a new link road. It is a major improvement to Doncaster’s infrastructure with the potential to create thousands of new jobs and drive economic growth in the town and across the region.

“Doncaster benefits from a prime location and superb transport links that put the town within touching distance of all corners of the UK and overseas. FARRRS will improve these links and enhance our reputation as the logistics capital of the north.

“I urge people to attend one of the consultation events so they can find out how they and their town can benefit from FARRRS.”

This formal consultation exercise will support a planning application which will be submitted in spring 2012. Subject to necessary approvals construction work is expected to start in summer 2012 with the new road becoming operational in early 2014.

FARRRS will provide the required infrastructure for a number of significant private sector developments to start in Rossington and at the airport. A dual carriageway will lead from the M18 towards Rossington and support the Inland Port, the link will continue as a single carriageway to the A638 at Parrot’s Corner. A direct connection will also be provided into Rossington. The 4km stretch of road will improve access and improve journey times for people travelling to and from this area and the airport.

In April 2011, Doncaster Council and its private sector partners received an offer of support for the full £18m which was bid for from the Regional Growth Fund. This government funding together with contributions from private sector developers and the council will help deliver the scheme.
