Hurstons take on a new apprentice with their continued growth and expansion strategy
Demonstrating their commitment to continued growth and expansion, Hurstons Accountants and Business Advisors have taken on a new accountancy apprentice. Kirsty Mortimer has joined the Hurstons team through Doncaster College as part of their apprentice scheme.
Pat Meadows, Assistant Principal at Doncaster College, says “ we are delighted to be working with Hurstons. It is essential that young people have the opportunity to work with reputable companies to pursue their career, and the apprenticeship programme is the preferred route for them to earn while they learn. Apprenticeships bring considerable value to organisations, employers, individuals and the economy. Businesses across the country are now increasingly realising the enormous benefits that Apprenticeships create, not only in terms of a highly skilled workforce but also by boosting productivity and staff retention. Research shows they are an optimal way of training, developing and skilling people for the future, helping businesses secure a supply of people with the skills and qualities they need. Hurstons are enlightened employers who have recognised the potential that committing to the apprenticeship programme can bring to their business.”
Kirsty will be undertaking a two year apprenticeship with Hurstons, under the guidance of partner, Anthony Fairhurst.
“At Hurstons we recognised the difficulty there can be in securing apprenticeships at the moment, as the opportunities don’t seem to be available to young people nowadays,” says Anthony. “We also recognised that there is a need to bring up and coming talent into the accounting profession, and we wanted to provide opportunities for young people to be trained into the working ethos of Hurstons.”
The apprenticeship scheme through Doncaster College ahs been going for many years, and provides young people with opportunities to further their career development in a real life working environment, giving them valuable experience and training that can only be achieved from the workplace.
As well as a new apprentice, Hurstons have also taken on Heather Benson, who has joined the team as a full time book keeper to support the existing accountancy staff. Heather has nine years experience as the Credit Control Manager and also the Sales and the Purchase Ledger Manager for her previous employer. She is also a Responder for the local “Epworth & Owston Ferry” LIVES group.
“Due to the recent addition of our business advice and support service, we needed another book keeper to keep up with demand,” explains Anthony. “This is part of the natural expansion of the company to continue to maintain high standards and service.”
