A group of Stainforth women have decided instead of being ‘fat ladies 88’ they want to be ‘legs 11.’
The group, who regularly meet for bingo sessions, decided to shed the stones to raise pounds for charity and between them have lost 6 stone 10lb.
Some of the women who live on Polton Close and attend their local tenants’ and residents’ association meetings, are slimming down, but for nine of them it’s to help them with a brave charity raising effort.
For they are flashing the flesh for a calendar with all proceeds from the sales being split between three charities – the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the Chatsfield Suite at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Help for Heroes.
Mary Nesbitt, one of the brave calendar girls, said: “The money from the weigh-ins will help to fund the print run of the calendar and every penny from the sale of those will be split between our chosen charities.
“The photos for the calendar are really tasteful, but it took some courage to strip off for the camera.”
Nyssa Hird, who works for St Leger Homes of Doncaster, but is also a professional photographer in her spare time, has volunteered her time to do the calendar shots.
All tenants’ and residents’ associations (TARAs) in Doncaster are supported by St Leger Homes of Doncaster – the organisation that manages around 21,000 homes for Doncaster Council. TARAs are in place to help tenants improve their community and have a greater say on the issues affecting it.
