Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, and Councillor Jonathan Wood, Cabinet Member for Business and Regeneration, will be attending the official opening of Scotts Miracle Gro’s new distribution hub at Armthorpe (on Thursday 6 January 2011 at the Quattro Building on West Moor Park in Armthorpe). 25 new jobs have been created on the site.
The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company is the world's largest marketer of branded consumer lawn and garden products with a multi-billion dollar turnover. Dave Swihart, Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain, Scott's Miracle-Gro will be in Doncaster to officially cut the ribbon.
Matt Payne, Scotts UK Logistics Manager, said: "We chose Doncaster as the location for our main UK warehouse due to the excellent transport links and the close proximity to our existing production plant in Howden."
Scotts also operate a large growing media manufacturing/distribution site at Hatfield, just outside of Doncaster. Invest in Doncaster, the council’s inward investment team, have been working with Shepherd Developments who own the Quattro unit for the past two years.
The Scott’s site will be managed by DHL and will create 25 jobs initially, this is expected to increase to between 40 and 50 during the peak shipping season.
Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “I am delighted that a major international company like Scotts have selected Armthorpe as the location for their new Distribution Centre.
“This shows the high level of confidence in the facilities and people we have in the town and further cements Doncaster’s much deserved reputation as the logistics capital of the north.”
Councillor Jonathan Wood, Cabinet Member for Business and Regeneration, said: “It is good that we have been able to offer support to both Scotts Miracle Gro and the developers Shepherd and Valad Property Group.
“The hard work of the Invest in Doncaster team has paid off with the opening of this new distribution hub.
“We look forward to continuing this fruitful working relationship between Doncaster Council and the company.”
Richard Squire, on behalf of Shepherd and Valad, added: "This is our fourth building at West Moor Park which has been successfully occupied with job creation and we are grateful for all the help we have received from Doncaster Council over the last 10 years."
