Ye Olde Bell, the renowned 4-star hotel & restaurant, at Barnby Moor, near Retford, Nottinghamshire were extremely proud to host the East Midlands Rolls Royce & Bentley Enthusiasts Club from Sunday 6 June – Wednesday 9 June 2010 – such a prestigious and historic event and what a spectacle it was to see over 30 superb limousines from the early 1930s onwards lined up outside reminding us that Ye Olde Bell is well and truly back to its former heyday!
Over the three days members enjoyed a packed itinerary (see attached and also details at the end of this release) including an evening of jazz, a talk by a retired RAF Wing Commander and entertainment by a theatre company all contrasted with days out in their cars to the Humber Bridge, Scunthorpe Steel Works and even an opportunity to drive a diesel locomotive through the steelworks as an alternative to their luxurious limousines!
The highlight was certainly the Gala Dinner themed around the fact that they were staying at one of England’s finest original coaching and posting inns dating back to 1650 – “Dick Turpin, Highwaymen & Stagecoaches” were back at Ye Olde Bell Hotel in style!
As they left the hotel, Jeff Dennis who had organised the event on behalf of the Club said: "On behalf of the 72 Rolls Royce Enthusiast Club members and myself, who have just enjoyed a fantastic three night stay at your beautiful hotel, I have just a few words to say. Thank you very very much for a truly wonderful experience. Words cannot fully express our enjoyment and satisfaction. The food was superb in quality and presentation. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The hotel itself just oozes traditional character and warmth. We could not possibly have expected or received more in hotel hospitality.
Ye Olde Bell was chosen for this event for two very good reasons. Firstly, The hotel has a strong past association with travel and motoring. Dating back to the 1650’s it rose to fame and fortune in the days of stagecoaches and highwaymen when it provided a safe and comfortable stopover on the Great North Road. It once held the official appointment of the RAC and in 1960 it was the British checkpoint for the Monte Carlo Rally. Secondly, the organiser Jeff Dennis, first stayed at the hotel some 45 years ago as a young man and has always held very fond memories of the warmth and character that every traveller feels on entering the hotel and I have been more than pleased to bring members of Rolls Royce Club to such a special place. We will definitely be back!"
