A Doncaster working mum, Caroline Abbott, is set to launch a new on-line business called “Toy Exchange Direct” (TED) on Valentines Day. TED is a web-site, where parents can buy and sell quality used toys, including bikes, DVD’s, books and computer games.
The site professes to offer “Quality Used Toys” and has been marketed in the South Yorkshire area, predominantly Doncaster, meaning that parents can choose to collect the items locally or have them delivered by courier/post – advertising on the site is free to all users.
Commenting, Caroline Abbot, Managing Director of Toy Exchange Direct, said:“The idea came when my daughter was 2 years old. She had been given so many toys by friends and relatives since she was born, that she had never used most of them. Most of these toys, which were anything from rocking horses to “In the Night Garden” toys, had hardly been used. I tried trading at car boot sales, but the toys were just too good to give away for 50p and getting up at 5am was tough! I wanted to be able to get a fair price for my daughter’s possessions, so that she could use the money in whatever way she saw fit.”
In addition, TED is donating 10% of its first year’s profit to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Bluebell Wood’s Chief Executive, Sarah Champion, added “We’d like to thank TED for their generous offer to donate 10% of their first year’s profit to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. It costs £2.5 million every year to provide care and support for children who are not expected to reach adulthood in the region. Our charity receives no statutory government funding, so we rely upon the generosity of the public and of companies like TED to allow us to continue to provide this vital service.
