The Naked Pet Shop in Armthorpe, Doncaster is at the forefront of a national campaign against the US heavyweight Marshall Farms. The New York based company, Marshall Farms, purchased breeder B&K Universal a few years ago and it has now launched a planning application to construct four units to breed Beagle dogs for vivisection in East Yorkshire.
Consideration is being given by East Yorkshire County Council to grant the breeding compound that will supply the animals for testing, something that the Naked Pet Shop and many others nationwide are strongly against.
Lesley White, co-owner of Naked Pet Shop expressed her deep desire to stop this happening and has backed and signed a petition, both online and paper based to try and get the application refused.
She said, “There is a massive outcry around the country with regards to vivisection in general, let alone to what Marshall Farms are planning to do right on our doorstep. I do feel very strongly about this, as Dogs and pets have been a big part of my life, especially Beagles. I breed pedigree Beagles for shows and have competed in Cruffs and just knowing that this kind of disgusting activity is happening just up the road from my kennels makes my stomach turn. I am urging everybody to sign the petition online at pettiononline.co.uk and in our storeto stop this happening, please help!”
If permission is granted many thousands of Beagles will be imprisoned in kennels on the site, near Hull, and sent on to laboratories worldwide for experimentation and research. Such research can legally NOT include the use of anesthetic or painkillers and many experiments will be terminal.
Dog and pet lovers opposed to such cruelty are asked to sign an online petition against this proposal at www.petitiononline.co.uk and finding the petition in the animal section. The Naked Pet Shop are also organising a paper petition for local people to sign in their Armthorpe store, located on Church Street – opposite the library and post office.
You can also contact East Riding of Yorkshire Council by letter or phone and ask that the planning application be refused. The Planning Application Number is 11/01324/STPLF.
