Bawtry's designer boutique Robinson's, who stepped onto the catwalk to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research, this week handed over a cheque for £14,000. Robinsons sponsored Doncaster Rovers player George Friend left, and Wendy Jones of Robinsons are pictured making the presentation to John Wakefield, a volunteer on the charity's Thorne YCR committee.
After an amazing 18 years of hosting its iconic annual charity fashion show, Robinsons boutique, located in the heart of Bawtry near Doncaster, has smashed the £200,000 mark with its latest fundraising efforts.
Held at its usual venue; the China Rose restaurant situated just metres from the doors of the boutique; the evening was to generate funds for local charity Yorkshire Cancer Research with £14,000 being raised on the evening through a raffle and an auction of fantastic prizes.
A forty five minute fashion show displayed some of Robinsons latest autumn/winter portfolio and included popular collections such as Duchamp, Armani, Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood. It culminated in a showcase of evening wear featuring their latest label acquisition, Sheffield based designer, Urban Threads, who designed a bespoke black dress for Robinsons proprietor, Wendy Jones and whose clothing is available only in selected outlets, including Harvey Nichols London.
“Our fashion show allows our guests to be treated to a sample of our latest collection and is always very well received,” commented Russell Jones, proprietor Robinsons. “They can appreciate a wide selection of current styles and how to put them together and, for the first time this year, could see how their little ones might look in one of our stylish children’s Barbour’s which we now have at the shop.”
Over 200 guests enjoyed a delicious three course Chinese banquet whilst being serenaded by Dr Sassoon’s Jazz Prescription and Robinsons very own Russell Jones who dusted down his talented vocal chords, after some persuasion, for a finale much to the surprise of many in the audience!
“We are very proud to continue the long established tradition of Robinsons annual fashion show which was started by previous boutique owner, Tony Robinson, after the death of his first wife to cancer,” commented Russell. “To have raised over £200,000 for this fantastic charity is superb. It was a fantastic evening and a wonderful atmosphere. Sincere thanks go to all our customers who generously support us and to those who give their time too. Without them we couldn’t have supported Yorkshire Cancer Research so generously over the years.”
New sponsors to the event this year were Alexander Calder Financial, CA Law and JB doors and thanks are extended to them from all the team at Robinsons. Ladies models were provided, and styled by, Neece Francess-Allen from Strut Your Style with James, from Harringtons of Bawtry, ensuring the gentlemen looked equally presentable.
Robinsons is also celebrating 25 years in business during 2011.
