Doncaster Tourism, part of Invest in Doncaster, and the Rotary Club of Doncaster St George’s have joined in the Chinese New Year celebrations this week with the launch of the Dragon Boat Challenge.
This spectacular team event takes place at Lakeside on the 24th July, with the fast and furious racing throughout the day.
The organisers are looking for a number of crews, companies and organisations who would like to battle it out in 30ft brightly painted Chinese dragon boats over the 200m course, watched by several hundred spectators, family and friends.
Each crew is made up of up to 10 paddlers, a beating drummer at the front of the boat and a steering helm at the tail end.
The ancient festival promises a fantastic day for competitors and spectators alike, with plenty of fun for all the family.
The event is being supported by the Rotary Club of Doncaster St George’s to raise money for their Community Grants Charities Scheme (putting money back into the local community where it is needed).
Commenting on the Challenge, Nigel Thorley of the Rotary Club of Doncaster, said: “We are all really looking forward to the Challenge which should be a great day with lots of fun, music and entertainment. We hope to raise as much money as we can for the Community Grants Charities Scheme.
