Members of Junior Chamber International Doncaster (JCI Doncaster), a leadership development organisation for people in their 20s and 30s, hope to collect thousands of presents for needy children in Doncaster through their annual Secret Santa Appeal, in conjunction with sponsors including Lakeside Village, VolkerRail, Atteys Solicitors and Storage King.
Members of JCI Doncaster and volunteers from local businesses will be manning a Christmas tree at the Lakeside Village on the last two weekends before Christmas (12th /13th December and 19th/20th December). Members of the public will be invited to choose a tag from the tree, which has the name and age of a child on it, and then buy a present that they think the child might like. Presents should be returned, unwrapped, to the volunteers at the Christmas tree.
In addition, letters have been sent to many local schools and businesses, asking if they’d like to take part.
Kay Matthews, the Project Manager for JCI Doncaster’s Secret Santa appeal commented:
“Helping the community is a central part of being a member of JCI UK. We try to provide projects for members which teach them management skills in a safe environment whilst also underlining our organisation’s beliefs about creating better societies through active participation.”
This is the fifth year that the appeal has been run, and the majority of the presents are passed to Doncaster Council for staff to distribute to children in needs across the borough.
Councillor Andrea Milner, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Christmas time is about giving and over the past five years the people of Doncaster have been extremely generous to make sure that these disadvantaged children get to enjoy the festive period too.”
