DONCASTER SOLICITOR ACTS IN SALE OF MOTHER SHIPTONS
Doncaster solicitors Taylor Bracewell has helped secure the sale of one of Yorkshire’s most famous landmarks, Mother Shipton’s Cave, in Knaresborough.
Acting on behalf of the seller, Sharon Beck, commercial partner at Taylor Bracewell said “It isn’t every day that I get to deal with a property with such a fascinating history and one that has such a sentimental place in the hearts of many people in Yorkshire, particularly one which I can remember from my own childhood years. Any multi million pound transaction is exciting, but this had the added excitement of being a unique attraction and famous piece of history too. I believe that it is only the 4th time that the property has changed hands in over 400 years! I have acted for my clients, the sellers for many years, and their transactions are always interesting, but I will definitely remember this one for a while!. It was a pleasure to help my clients again this time”
Once part owned by magician Paul Daniels, Mother Shipton’s Cave is over 400 years old and is said to be the birthplace in 1488 of prophetess Mother Shipton, who was believed to be the Devil’s child! Many people in Doncaster will have visited and seen the cave’s petrifying well which turn’s things to stone. What child can forget the petrified teddy bear!
The sellers, who also emanated from Doncaster originally said “We have thoroughly enjoyed owning and running the business but we are ready for the next phase of our lives. Of course everyone knows about the cave but the business also includes woodlands, riverside and property which is on the National Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England. By its nature, the transaction was quite complex, but Sharon took it all in her stride as usual. She is so focussed on what she does, she almost makes it seem simple. We are really pleased to have had her support over the years; she has always provided us with a service that is second to none. We were delighted that she represented us on the sale of this famous piece of history. She made sure things ran smoothly and certainly helped us not to be ‘petrified’ during the transaction! ”
