Doncaster Council’s Cabinet Member for Business, Jonathan Wood, is getting behind a new local business, Purple Vouchers which launches this month with an event at the Blue Building (Thursday 16 September at 1pm).
Based at the Robin Hood Airport site, Purple Vouchers produce a unique bi-monthly ‘cheque book’ format publication, packed with great consumer offers and discounts, which is distributed free to 20,000 homes in the Doncaster area.
Purple Vouchers Sales Director, Jackie Hamilton comments “I’m Doncaster born and bred, and we really want to be part of a vibrant local economy and help promote services and business in and around the town.”
Purple Vouchers has received help through Doncaster Council’s Success Doncaster programme in promoting the business and identifying potential clients within the borough. Purple Vouchers were also introduced to a mentor from the Doncaster 100 scheme. The firm will also be exhibiting at the Success Doncaster-organised DN Business Showcase 2010 in October. Invest in Doncaster, the council’s inward investment arm, have also provided support with contacts, distribution and marketing.
Doncaster Council’s Cabinet Member for Business, Jonathan Wood, said: “We are doing all we can to support businesses both new and existing and create jobs in Doncaster.
“I am pleased that we have been able offer Purple Vouchers help through the Success Doncaster programme.
“Everyone is looking for a bargain these days and the great thing about Purple Vouchers is that it will encourage people to buy locally.
“Look out for the voucher for fresh fish at Doncaster’s historic markets, there are also deals on offer at the council’s Cusworth Hall and the Civic Theatre.”
There has been no shortage of advertisers featuring in the first voucher booklet. “The response has been amazing,” says Jackie, “and has genuinely taken us by surprise.”
Advertisers include big names such as Nuffield Health’s fitness and well-being health club and gym, Domino’s Pizza, Wimpy and Best Western Hotels, to locally based businesses like Esquires Coffee House, Doncaster Markets, Tom Wood Florists and ACS Computer Superstore.
Also taking part are Doncaster Dome, the Lakeside Village Outlet, Cusworth Hall, Cyclelife Doncaster, Cake Creations, Think Purple Designers, Kenberne and Doncaster Civic.
“We want as many people to use the vouchers as possible,” says Jackie, “I’m planning a new bathroom so will be taking advantage of the 40% voucher at bathrooms4all, and am planning a facial with a free Spa pass at Elements MediSpa, and am planning a meal out with the girls at Aagrah where we’ll get a free bottle of wine.”
The official launch of the Purple Vouchers brand is to take place at the Tourist Information Centre, on Thursday 16 September at 1pm. The Civic Mayor, Councillor Margaret Pinkney, will be attending, there will be a free glass of champagne for anyone who comes down to find out more and pick up a free voucher booklet.
The Civic Mayor, Councillor Margaret Pinkney, said: “I am delighted to see yet another new venture starting up in Doncaster and wish them the very best of luck with the business.”
Jackie ends by saying “Consumers and businesses are both benefiting from Purple Vouchers, which has to be good for the local economy, and the Christmas 2010 edition is already in production, and it’s already promising to be a bumper edition.”
