Crowds thought to be in excess of 1,000 enjoyed a morning of true British heritage when they flocked to see the Grove & Rufford Hunt depart from the Crown Hotel in the centre of Bawtry on Boxing Day.
Around 75 riders were greeted by enthusiastic applause as the Hunt made its way along the main street at the sound of Huntsman Paul Larby's horn, shortly after 11am.
It was the first time in decades that the Crown Hotel had hosted the local Hunt. Managing Director Craig Dowie, whose daughter Antonia was among those mounted, said: "It was a genuine pleasure to host such a fantastic occasion. The atmosphere was amazing and we're looking forward to making next year a real ‘Bawtry’ occasion where all of the retailers will also hopefully get involved so people coming along to watch can make a day of it”.
Craig added “The hotel started working with the hunt just this year and we are looking forward to working more closely with them as a partner hotel into 2012”.
The Hunt made its way to nearby Scaftworth where they were greeted by Morris Dancers outside the King William pub before heading out into the country.
