Cabbies course puts customer care first

Doncaster Council’s Licensing team is supporting taxi drivers to gain a qualification in customer care.  The idea is to further enhance the experience for customers.

A number of drivers have recently successfully completed a new professional qualification, NVQ level 2, Road Passenger Transport. The course covers a wide range of subjects including: customer care, dress code, disability awareness, equal opportunities, local knowledge of attractions, events, and places of interest.

In the long term the aim is for all drivers to achieve the NVQ. It is not yet a condition of taxi driver licensing but may be considered in the future.  There are also plans to include the NVQ logo on drivers’ badges so that customers can see which drivers are trained in customer care.

Councillor Cynthia Ransome, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Regulatory/Customer Services and Housing said: “Our cabbies are already offering a good standard of customer service but this will help them to go one better.”
