Doncaster Council’s £5million myplace project, which will see two new youth centres built in Bentley and Denaby, is inviting local business people to get behind the plans.
The project, subject to full approval, will be funded by the Department for Education through the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and has seen local young people participating in how these two planned facilities should look and the types of services they will offer.
As well as being part of the decision making process during the design and build process, young people will also be tasked with helping to run and manage the new youth centres once they open. This will include maximising revenues from renting out rooms or cafe sales and organising services and events. This responsibility will give young people a real sense of ownership and help them grow into confident and skilled young adults.
Members of the local business community are being encouraged to play their part by flying the flag for the myplace project. They are being invited to mentor and inspire young people, use their business knowledge to offer direction and support and help promote the centres through publicity and sponsorship.
Councillor Andrea Milner, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services, said: “We are looking for businesses to come forward and support these youth centres so they are used to their maximum potential and provide the best possible services for our young people and the local communities they will serve.
“This is an opportunity for local businesses to make a real difference and put something back into the community. They can have a say in shaping the plans, network with other businesses, have access to a volunteer base of young people and help create youth centres that deliver a brighter future for our young people.”
The youth centres will deliver a wide range of facilities, services and stimulating activities to help young people socialise, learn new skills, reveal hidden talents and make the most of their lives.
