Big hearted staff at a Doncaster housing organisation have given two charities and soldiers in Afghanistan a boost – after raising cash and packing Christmas boxes.
Staff at St Leger Homes of Doncaster – the organisation responsible for managing around 21,000 homes for Doncaster Council – have raised £740 for the Help the Heroes charity, have sent 65 boxes of sweets, biscuits, and other goodies to troops serving in Afghanistan and 56 boxes as part of Operation Christmas Child to young people in disadvantaged situations in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The money was raised from a Christmas party for staff, organised by joiner Fred Jenkins. A donation from each ticket sale went to the charity and the amount was boosted by a raffle at the event. Help for Heroes is a charity which raises money to support members of the armed forces who have been wounded in service.
Meanwhile, staff member Ellie Kershaw has been collecting sweets and other goodies to make up shoe boxes for the troops serving in Afghanistan and cashier Colleen Thompson has collected the shoe boxes for young people.
Fred said: “We are a generous lot here at St Leger Homes. Staff have been busy making up boxes at home to donate to the two collections and dug deep in their pockets at the party I organised. I’m sure the charities and the soldiers will be thrilled to bits with our efforts.”
