Boost for junior football team

A Warmsworth junior football club has received a welcome £100 boost thanks to a Doncaster housing organisation.

Warmsworth Lions under 16s football team will now use the money to buy essential equipment to allow them to keep playing, including footballs and kit.

The money has been donated by St Leger Homes of Doncaster – the organisation that manages just under 21,000 homes for Doncaster Council – from its positive activities fund.

The positive activities funding has to be used to benefit young people and to keep them occupied in a safe and positive environment. The team has players from the estates St Leger Homes manages including from Edlington, Conisbrough and Balby.

Peter Finnerty, who helps with the team, said: “We really appreciate this money. It will help us to keep the club running and to buy necessary equipment.”

Susan Jordan, chief executive of St Leger Homes of Doncaster, said: “We are always pleased to offer support to clubs that aim to keep young people busy, healthy and active and engaged in positive activities.”
