The stylish suburb of Bawtry has added another angle to its list of attractions – a plethora of floral displays that could give RHS Chelsea a run for its money!
Bawtry Retail Association (BRA) – a newly formed committee of retailers and businesses in the town with the sole aim of promoting Bawtry and its endless appeal – has been working with local award winning Hurst Lane Nurseries to create the most amazing floral displays.
Perhaps the most striking, and the most unusual, is a vertical garden on the wall of Coco Ice Cocktail Bar which overlooks an already spectacular display of summer bedding. Designed, created and installed by Byron Pagin from Hurst Lane Nurseries the garden, which measure five metres by two metres and is composed entirely from red and white pansies, is innovative and attractive inviting much comment from visitors and local residence. It also gains the accolade of the largest hanging basket in the UK!
“We are thrilled with the floral displays that Byron has created for the town and the vertical garden at Coco Ice is particularly fitting as we celebrate our first anniversary,” commented John Walsh proprietor of Coco Ice and chairman of BRA. “We are really committed to putting Bawtry on the map and this is just one of the many initiatives that we are putting in place to ensure every visitor to Bawtry has a most enjoyable experience.”
It heralds the start of ‘Bawtry in Bloom’ chaired by David Womack, of Womacks of Bawtry, which will enjoy its inaugural competition and judging in 2012 whilst Zinis, the Courtyard, the Turnpike and the Timber Joint together with Coco Ice are awaiting the results of ‘Doncaster in Bloom’ 2011 with anticipation.
Byron, whose idea it was to create the vertical garden using 1000 plants, has worked closely with Cambridge based Florensis Flower Seeds for both the plants and the construction of the Dutch Hanging Basket, and is solely responsible for the creation and implementation of this innovative project.
