Infamous Band Leader at Ye Olde Bell Hotel Dinner Dances from 1955 - 1972

For almost 20 years, Ye Olde Bell was renowned for its stylish Dinner Dances and it was certainly 'the place to be every Saturday night'!

The hotel was owned at the time by Hans Nielsen and he recruited Geoff Oakley and his superb band to play every Saturday.  Geoff now lives in Australia, but is coming over to stay and the hotel are hosting 'An Audience with Geoff Oakley' on MONDAY 23 MAY from 5.30 - 8pm with Geoff's vintage footage presentation at 6.30 pm.  Patrons who remember Geoff and enjoyed those amazing dinner dances, plus anyone interested in that glamorous era and the history of the hotel, are welcome to come along for 'Canapes & Chat'.

The vintage footage and Geoff's recollections are quite incredible - including one Christmas Day when Mr Nielsen had guests serving the lunch, as the staff wanted more money!  The evening will be enhanced by Mr Nielsen's son-in-law and grandson also attending to share their memories and meet guests, as they lived at the hotel at that time.
