ACS has won the Outstanding Business Partner Award from Doncaster Enterprise for Learning (DE4L) for their involvement with local schools, in South Yorkshire.
ACS has been supporting DE4L for a number of years and Charlotte Lister, an ACS employee and vice chair for one of the DE4L skills action groups, plays an active role in making sure that local employers are involved in student development. Charlotte has also given presentations on “Preparation for working life” to Doncaster students.
ACS attended an Effective Partnership Programme for Employers course through DE4L. The course involved completing modules including child protection and legislation in schools. The course updated ACS on the progress of Diploma qualifications and explained how ACS could help students develop their potential.
ACS has continually supported DE4L by taking part in a number of activities including:
• In a team building exercise, pairing with Year 8 students from Ridgewood School. Helping build and organise a raft race against other secondary schools;
• Organising a CPD day at the ACS office for 11 local school teachers from the McAuley Pyramid. The CPD allowed them to learn about ACS, as well as define the student challenge, set judging criteria and prizes. Charlotte launched the challenge to each Y6 and Y7 class in the McAuley-School pyramid. In July 2010, ACS then worked alongside a range of other local business professionals to judge the student’s solutions and choose a winning-team; and
• Organising a CPD Teacher Training Day to teach over 50 local school teachers to use Smartboard technology.
The DE4L project is a three year programme funded by the Government’s Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI). The DE4L offers a planned and coordinated approach to Doncaster schools and businesses to support them in understanding and creating enterprise learning in schools.
DE4L encourages, enhances and supports the process of embedding an enterprising approach to learning into Doncaster schools’ curriculum. It develops the capacity of teachers to design and deliver enterprise programmes as well as providing and supporting opportunities for school pupils to test out enterprising ideas and thoughts.
