Take the pressure out of efficiency

Doncaster Council is offering local residents and developers a helping hand in getting to grips with energy efficiency by providing the new Air Testing service.

The service, which has recently been launched by the council’s Building Control Team, is compulsory for new homes under Building Regulations. However residents with older homes could also benefit as the test identifies areas of heat loss, usually in the form of drafts, which can usually be easily rectified by the homeowner - saving them energy and money.

Once a property has been air tested, an energy performance certificate will be given, which will provide homeowners with an easily recognisable rating of the running costs and efficiency of their new home.

Whilst offering this new service, the team remain committed to delivering an excellent service in the existing areas of their work. The day-to-day duties can vary from replacing a window to attending buildings that have become dangerous due to neglect, weather or through accidental damage.

Council projects, such as the community sports stadium, the Racecourse and CCQ, also involve Building Control’s services to ensure the construction is to the necessary standard. In the case of sports venues the team also assesses and issues safety certificates.
