Quarterly Economic Survey

Today, Doncaster Chamber has launched a survey to determine how the current recession is impacting upon business.

The Chamber's Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) provides vital information about how the local economy is fairing.

This provides the Chamber with the necessary information to influence local and national government to get the best possible deal for Doncaster business in difficult economic times.

The QES is the country's largest business survey and is recognised by Government and the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, the body responsible for setting interest rates, as the most reliable forecaster of future economic trends.

Between 1st and 3rd September Doncaster Chamber is running the DN Business Expo which is designed to help Doncaster firms find new business opportunities and to kick start economic recovery in the borough.

Daniel Fell, Head of Policy, commented:

"The results of the last QES showed a significant rise in business confidence in the borough with local trends far outstripping national averages. We want the DN Business Expo to harness that resurgence in business confidence and to be a real flex of the muscles for the Doncaster economy.

"Times are still incredibly tough for Doncaster businesses and we must not be too bullish about the immediate future. However, by bringing several hundred businesses together at the Expo we hope to generate a number of commercial opportunities for local firms and ensure that the recent rise we have seen in business confidence is swiftly followed by an increase in actual sales, with obvious benefits for the local economy and communities.

"We are also pleased that there will be a strong public sector procurement presence at the Expo, particularly on day one which is focused around construction. Whilst private money may still be in short supply there are a number of public sector projects in the pipeline, such as Building Schools for the Future, which we are working hard with partners to connect local businesses to."
