The Arculus Review, commissioned by the Conservative Party, outlines plans to cut the cost of red tape to business during the recession.
Commenting on these proposals, Daniel Fell, Head of Policy at Doncaster Chamber, said:
“The cumulative cost of regulation on business now stands at a staggering £100 billion. Addressing the mass of red tape handcuffing British business needs to be a priority for all politicians. Good regulation provides a necessary framework for all economic activity. Bad regulation imposes unnecessary costs upon all concerned. A recent survey of Doncaster businesses demonstrated that red tape is the second biggest barrier to growth for Doncaster businesses just behind skills issues but ahead of other pressing issues such as business taxation, procurement and transport and accessibility.
“Arculus’ proposals will be widely endorsed by the Chamber, especially plans to implement regulatory budgets and for a UK minister to be permanently based in Brussels, thus allowing earlier challenges to European laws”
