Arriva plans

Arriva plan to remove Doncaster from train routes

You may be aware that Arriva Cross Country Trains has proposed to divert its Newcastle to Reading route from its current Yorkshire run (through York-Doncaster-Sheffield) so that the trains, and the return journeys, run via Leeds instead of Doncaster.

We need to find out how this change will affect Doncaster businesses in order to advise the Department of Transport’s inquiry into the proposal, so we are consulting you as a matter of urgency to find out what you think.

The change will affect both commuting and long distance journeys:

Commuting:

• There will be no services from York to Doncaster arriving during the main rush hour times of 07.00 to 09.00 hours and fourteen fewer each-way services between the two during the day.

• The non-stopping Sheffield-Doncaster connection will cease, with commuters forced to travel on other trains or by other means. Fourteen sub-30 minute connections will be lost each way.

Long distance:

• Direct services to Newcastle will be reduced from the current 33 trains per day to 19.

• There will be no direct service to Birmingham and Reading. All trips will involve longer journeys that change at Sheffield.
