20th Anniversary Opens Door to New Growth

Doncaster-based Sentry Doors is celebrating its 20th Anniversary in business with a phase of unprecedented recruitment, investment and growth. Already the largest UK manufacturer of external timber doors, the company is expanding its Doorset Division with the aim of becoming one of the top three suppliers in the UK within this key area.

Business Development Manager Steve Carter says: “As the market has shifted towards offsite construction methods, we have set up a dedicated 12,500 square foot factory to accommodate the increasing demand for our doorsets”.

“In particular, our public and private sector clients are choosing doorsets over doors as one contract covers frames, architrave, doors and optional hardware, simplifying the procurement process, reducing administration costs and enabling Just in Time delivery. In addition, as the complex operation of getting the doors to swing true has already been performed, the doorsets can be fitted much quicker”.

The expansion of the Doorset Division has been underpinned by the recent investment of over £1 million in plant and people, with new General Manager Norman Walker providing additional manufacturing support for the ten-strong doorset team. Norman’s previous experience at key joinery companies ensures over 100 years collective experience across the Sentry Doors team.

Managing Director Gordon Yates says: “The key appointment of a new General Manager and the adoption of Sage Manufacturing software will enable us to position Sentry Doors as a world-class lean manufacturer. Whilst our six acre site already includes a 32,000 square foot HQ and two factories totalling a further 37,000 square foot, in the short term we will also need to build a new factory for our expanding Commodity Doors Division.

“It’s not only a success story for Sentry Doors but also a feather in the cap for Doncaster, which has a long tradition of door manufacture going back over several generations”.
