Popular demand and stunning displays has seen one local attraction extend its opening times. Whilst many will be looking forward to the end of this long and particularly harsh winter, the conditions have at least been perfect for one native species – the snowdrop – and, there is nowhere better to see them than at the picturesque Hodsock Priory, located near Blyth, North Nottinghamshire.
The priory’s annual spring spectacular, has seen the millions of delicate flowers thrive in the early harsh cold and now milder conditions of winter and as such, the display this year is so good that the opening has been extended for an extra week to allow even more visitors to enjoy the beauty.
“This year, is one of the most stupendous displays of snowdrops and spring flowers that I can recall for many years,” commented George Buchanan, ninth generation resident and general manager. “Our wonderful snowdrops contrast beautifully with daffodils, cyclamens and hellabores to create a truly breathtaking display of spring in the heart of rural England.”
As one of the top ten winter gardens in the whole of the UK, Hodsock Priory also has a family treasure trail for the first time this year, which is delighting children of all ages and is a chance to win £100 worth of chocolate courtesy of ‘The Chocolate Kitchen’ in Retford.
“We have already welcomed thousands of visitors who have had a thoroughly lovely time,” said George. “Not only are the snowdrops and gardens wonderful to enjoy on foot, but they are perfect for artists and photographers to capture. Our visitors also enjoy our wonderful tearoom with homemade lunches and cakes available. If you haven’t paid us a visit so far this year, we look forward to welcoming you soon.”
Luxury self catering accommodation is also available at The Courtyard located just moments from the Priory on the Hodsock Estate.
