Bridging the gap between business and education

The Doncaster Skills Academy was created by the Doncaster Chamber in 2014, in response to feedback from the local business community, concerning difficulties they were facing in the recruitment and retention of skilled staff.

To help address this ‘skills gap’, the Doncaster Skills Academy set about to better equip schools and their young people with the skills and information they require when entering into the world of work.

Since 2014, the Doncaster Skills Academy has grown considerably both in size and scope.

To date the Academy has supported 15 Doncaster secondary schools, over 18,500 students, and worked with over 300 businesses volunteers to deliver the project.

The Doncaster Skills Academy consists of a variety of modules and other interventions for students, covering four themes:

  1. Awareness and Aspirations
  2. Employability and Work Readiness
  3. Financial Awareness
  4. Enterprise and Commerciality
