Construction Doncaster

Construction Doncaster (Chair – Paul Senior of Frank Haslam Milan) This Focus Group provides a key forum for businesses either working in or with Doncaster’s construction industry. Click here for Terms of Reference Constructing Doncaster On 27th October 2008 the inaugural Construction Doncaster Trade Fair took place at Doncaster Racecourse. The all day event attracted over 500 delegates who enjoyed a variety of activities and exhibitors on the day. The event featured five keynote speakers including Terry Bramall – Former Chair of Keepmoat, Stephen Shore – CEO of Doncaster Chamber, Julie Wilson of Success Doncaster, Tony Slater of Tony Slater Plasterers and Mickey Walker of Doncaster Rovers who collectively address a range of key issues affecting the sector. Terry Bramall spoke about the growth of the Keepmoat business and how, in his view, businesses can go from being good to great. Meanwhile Tony Slater spoke of the development of his own business from a one man band into a thriving SME that employs over thirty staff in just under four years. It was the first time Tony has ever spoken in public but his story was one of the real highlights of the day. The event also included almost 80 exhibitors who showcased a range of construction related products and services whether they were contractors, builders, manufacturers, suppliers, or others connected with the industry. Finally, a series of breakout seminars took place throughout the day covering a range of issues that could help businesses to improve including procurement, meet the contractor, health and safety and CSCS accreditation. The event was delivered by the Chamber’s Construction Focus Group who had worked for six months to make the event a reality and now hope that it will become an annual fixture on the Doncaster business calendar. Speaking after the event Paul Senior, Frank Haslam Milan and Chair of Construction Doncaster said: “A short time ago the members of Construction Doncaster realised that thousands of people jump in their vans every morning to go and work outside of Doncaster. As a group we want to ensure that those people are better connected to the construction related opportunities that are here in Doncaster rather than losing their skills and services to other towns. It is obvious to everyone that Doncaster is a town on the move; the built environment will play a key part in the transformation of Doncaster and we want Doncaster construction companies to play a key part in putting it together.” If you are interested in joining Doncaster Chamber Membership and/or would like to get involved in the Construction Doncaster Focus Group please contact Daniel Fell on 01302 640113 or email dfell@doncaster-chamber.co.uk
