Buy Doncaster

Support Doncaster, Grow Doncaster

Doncaster Chamber has launched a 'Buy Doncaster' campaign to encourage businesses to consider sourcing locally wherever possible to support our local businesses.

The recent ProDoncaster Survey of over 200 local businesses showed that 96% of them supported a buy local policy.

The campaign comes after an announcement, by the Chamber, that business confidence is showing significant signs of improvement in the last quarter returning to levels not seen since early 2008. However, to see further growth in our local economy businesses need to be persistent and continue to be proactive in developing links with new customers and suppliers.

The 'Buy Doncaster' campaign, which will be promoted via 40,000 window stickers that are displayed in cars and premises throughout the town, is designed to get businesses to think about where they buy their goods.

Stephen Shore, Chief Executive at Doncaster Chamber, explains: “This is not about being protectionist, but about opening up the maximum opportunities for Doncaster businesses to do business with one another and major public agencies such as NHS Doncaster, Doncaster Council and Doncaster College.

Doncaster Council alone spends £350m per year on goods and services and there must be opportunities to keep more of that money within the borough.

‘Buy Doncaster’ is also about raising the profile of Doncaster locally and regionally, encouraging companies who may be thinking about relocating to think about buying into the area.”

Thorne Brewery, are just one of the many advocates of the 'Buy Doncaster' campaign, they have based their business model on sourcing locally and are proud to have become a local provider for other businesses in the area.

Mark Burton of Thorne Brewery commented: “We fully support the Chamber's 'buy local' campaign, our brewery is a community interest company and aims to source all our goods and services from the local area. We pride ourselves in supporting businesses in the region and are thankful for the support that local businesses have shown in us.

Through developing relationships with surrounding suppliers we have stocked a number of Doncaster establishments, including two branches of J D Wetherspoon, with our beer. Our ultimate aim is to work with farmers to get our barley and hops grown in Thorne, so our real ale is quite literally made in Thorne!"

Doncaster Free Press will be helping to distribute the 'Buy Doncaster' window stickers by including them in each paper on the Thursday 27th August and will also be distributed to all delegates at DN Business Expo 09. Graeme Huston, Editor of the Doncaster Free Press, said: "I'm delighted to support this fantastic scheme which is entirely in the spirit of the Free Press's popular campaign 'Pride in Doncaster'. We'll be doing our best to publicise the Buy Doncaster campaign week by week in the Free Press and hope as many people, individuals and businesses get into the spirit of buying, and thinking, local.''
