Chamber Movement Key in Securing Budget Decision on Fuel Duty

Doncaster Chamber was delighted, that in his first budget, the Chancellor Alistair Darling announced that he would defer the planned 2p increase in fuel duty that had been planned for April to October 2008.

Doncaster Chamber, together with all the Chambers in the British Chambers of Commerce network, lobbied Government very hard on this issue with over 700 businesses adding their names as signatories to a letter addressed to the Chancellor calling for Government to scrap the increase and to ease the pressures on an industry that is absolutely critical to both Doncaster’s and the UK’s economy.

The Budget announcement is a major policy win for the Chamber network that spearheaded this campaign. Following the Chambers’ lead, the British Chambers of Commerce were joined by several motoring and logistics organisations including the AA/RHA and FTA which added further weight to this important message.

Doncaster Chamber, together with the other Chambers within the network, will continue to press for scrapping the increase completely.
